Visualization of Scalar Adaptive Mesh Refinement Data

چکیده
Adaptive Mesh Refinement (AMR) is a highly effective computation method for simulations that span a large range of spatiotemporal scales, such as astrophysical simulations, which must accommodate ranges from interstellar to sub-planetary. Most mainstream visualization tools still lack support for AMR grids as a first class data type and AMR code teams use custom built applications for AMR visualization. The Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Science Discovery through Advanced Computing (SciDAC) Visualization and Analytics Center for Enabling Technologies (VACET) is currently working on extending VisIt, which is an open source visualization tool that accommodates AMR as a first-class data type. These efforts will bridge the gap between generalpurpose visualization applications and highly specialized AMR visual analysis applications. Here, we give an overview of the state of the art in AMR scalar data visualization research.

Employing Complex GPU Data Structures for the Interactive Visualization of Adaptive Mesh Refinement Data
We present a framework for interactively visualizing volumetric Adaptive Mesh Refinement (AMR) data. For this purpose we employ complex data structures to map the entire AMR dataset to graphics memory. This allows to apply hardware accelerated visualization algorithms previously only operating on uniform cartesian grids. For mapping the data to graphics memory we consider two approaches, a spac...
متن کاملImplementing a Visualization Tool for Adaptive Mesh Refinement Data using VTK
We are currently working with several research groups who use adaptive mesh refinement, AMR, techniques for calculations in computational fluid dynamics and cosmology. The computational fluid dynamics group needed a visualization tool to visualize AMR data and to distribute with their AMR library. Since none of the widely available visualization systems directly supported visualizing AMR data, ...
متن کاملDeformable Surface Techniques for Field Visualization
Surface extraction from data fields is often used in scientific visualization, as surfaces can represent meaningful information and they are well suited for display. This paper describes a general method for localized surface extraction from scalar and vector fields. An initial polygonal surface is placed within the field, and the shape of the surface is adapted to the field by iterative displa...
متن کاملParallel Rendering of 3D AMR Data on the SGI/Cray T3E
This paper describes work-in-progress on developing parallel visualization strategies for 3D Adaptive Mesh Refinement (AMR) data. AMR is a simple and powerful tool for modeling many important scientific and engineering problems. However, visualization tools for 3D AMR data are not generally available. Converting AMR data onto a uniform mesh would result in high storage requirements, and renderi...
